JAZZ music fans in South Ayrshire were given a real treat when the Vieux Carré Jazzmen arrived in Ayr during August.

The group, one of England’s longest-established jazz bands, played at Ayr Jazz Club’s gig at the Fairfield Hotel in the town.

The band was formed in 1954 by James Peter Deuchar, grandson of brewery magnate James Deuchar, and has been a regular supporter of Ayr Jazz Club’s events since 2012.

This time round they were fronted by trumpeter Ian Sanderson, with the line-up completed by band leader Brian Bennett on banjo, Jim McBriarty on clarinet and vocals, drummer Paul Thomson, and two new faces brought on by band leader Brian’s continuing encouragement of new young musicians in the north-east of England – Conor Emery on trombone and Adam Sams on bass guitar.
